A few days off grid on the Calf of Man, with purple heather, cold-water swims and time to sit with a book. Sometimes that is all the adventure I need.
My latest film follows our stay, from leaving the mainland to cottage life, exploring the rock pools and watching an orange moon rise beside the lighthouse.
Cottage life and time to slow down
There is something lovely about a trip with room for an unhurried afternoon. A book, a wander and the sea nearby. This was a chance to step away from the noise of everyday life and spend a little more time outside.
Small wonders among the heather
The heather was purple, and among the flowers we spotted a hummingbird hawkmoth. I love including these small encounters in my films. There is plenty to notice when you give yourself time to look.
Rock pools and wild swimming
We spent time by the rock pools and in the cold water, exploring the coastline at a slower pace. These are the parts of island life I keep returning to with my camera: the sea, the open landscape and the pleasure of being out in it.
An evening by the lighthouse
The film ends by the lighthouse as an orange moon rises. After the swimming, heather and open country, it felt like a lovely place to leave the story.
If you have a few minutes, come along for the journey. You can watch the full film above, or watch it on YouTube.
